It’s that time of year again.  The NFL has come to a close.  The Super Bowl is upon us.

In just over a week, on February 3rd, the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens will face off to determine the winner of  Super Bowl XLVII (that’s 47 for you non-Romans).

There are so many story lines in this year’s Super Bowl.

- It is the San Francisco 49ers sixth appearance in the Super Bowl and they are trying to be the first team to be 6-0 in those games and to join only the Pittsburgh Steelers with six Super Bowl victories

- It is the Baltimore Ravens second apperance in the Super Bowl (their first was a victory over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV (that’s 35).  They are seeking to go 2-0 in the Super Bowl

- It is the first time brother is facing brother from a head coach stand point.  John Harbaugh and Jim Harbaugh are facing each other

- It is the last game of Baltimore’s Ray Lewis; who announced he is retiring following this season

Below are who the Sports Unbiased writers believe will win, why they’ll win, what the final score will be and who the Super Bowl MVP is going to be.  Read what they think then vote for the winner and MVP below.  Feel free to comment as well.

Predictions

Sammie Wright

I think the Baltimore Ravens will win behind the leadership of Joe Flacco with the ability to strike fast with Anquan Boldin in the air and Ray Rice on the ground. The Ravens have passed every test in the last two games on the road. The 49ers will make it close with Kaepernick and the pass/run double-threat ability. The 49ers cannot fall behind early this time. The Ravens defense has held more than thier own and will do so again. I think the Ravens will win 35-31 over the 49ers with Joe Flacco getting the MVP trophy screaming, “I’m going to Disney World!”

JR Williams: 49ers will win. In my head I want to go with Flacco but on the field I see Kaepernick having the edge. The Baltimore defense isn’t that much better than the Falcons and their quarterback, Matt Ryan, is better than Flacco. I’m not sure if the Ravens will be able to put up enough points and keep up with Kaepernick at the same time. 49ers win 28-17.  The MVP Colin Kaepernick.

Adam SolowieiIt is Ray Lewis’s last ride so you know the defense and Ray will be jacked up. Will it help? It sure won’t hurt. You have a battle of two young quarterbacks. Flacco has much more playoff experience but the big lights have not affected Kaepernick to date. Both have had incredible post season runs to date. They play different styles but both are effective.  San Francisco is the super team statistically and their guys up front will go a long way in determining the game. Players like Justin Smith and Joe Staley are finally “healthy” so there is definitely a factor to consider. While Ray Rice is a great running back the 49er run defense (Gore, Kaepernick, etc.) is superior and they should be able to control the clock.  Baltimore has Torrey Smith and Boldin which in my mind is superior or Crabtree (I fumble on the goal line), Moss etc. I like Pitta of Baltimore as he is a steady pass catching TE but it appears the 49ers started to use the talents of Vernon Davis (5 catches for 100+ and a touchdown last week) so the edge is to the 49ers.  It is hard to decide so I am siding with the camel. That’s right, a camel. Princess the Camel of the Popcorn Park Zoo in New Jersey has picked six of the last seven Super Bowl winners. Here is last years New York Giants choice. This year Princess likes the Ravens and so do I. My mind says 49ers but something about this run tell me Ray Lewis goes out with a bang.  The final score will be 28-24 and Joe Flacco will win the MVP.

Rich Stowe:  My gut is telling me that the 49ers are riding a wave of momentum similar to what the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants rode to Super Bowl victories in the last two seasons.  However, Baltimore is on the same momentum train – going into Denver and New England and coming away with victories.  Kaepernick and the 49ers should be able to go score-for-score with the Ravens, but I think the Ravens, bolstered by the fact that this is Ray Lewis’ final game come out on top.  The final score will be 31 – 28 with Joe Flacco winning the MVP.

So, three say the Ravens will win while one says the 49ers will win.  Three say Joe Flacco will get the MVP while one says Colin Kaepernick will.

Now’s your chance to vote – who will win and who will be named MVP?  Vote below and then feel free to comment.
